Service-Connected Disabilities
One at a time, enter each of your separately rated VA Service Connected Disabilities using the Service Connected Disability box and then using the Percentage Assigned by the VA box drop-down list to choose your current rating for that disability. Next click the + Add Another Disability button, type in another of your Service Connected Disabilities and then choose the percentage rating assigned by the VA to that disability. Repeat until all of your Service Connected Disabilities and the percentage assigned by the VA for each disability are listed. The calculator will combine them using the VA’s Combined Ratings Table (38 CFR § 4.25) — ratings are not simply added. Mark conditions as “bilateral” if they affect paired body parts (e.g., both knees, both arms) for the 10% bilateral factor.
Dependent Status
Your dependants only affect your rate of compensation if your combined ratings equal 30% or higher. Therefore, if your combined ratings are 10% or 20%, a flat rate applies regardless of dependents. At 30% or higher the VA will pay additional monthly compensation to you for your dependants. VA dependants fall into 1 of 4 categories: Spouses, Dependant Parents, Children Under Age 18, and Children 18 and over who are attending a Qualifying School Program.
Estimate only. This calculator illustrates how the VA’s combined-ratings formula works using current published rates. It does not account for Special Monthly Compensation (SMC), TDIU, concurrent receipt, or every dependent scenario. For an authoritative figure, see the VA’s official rate tables.
